How luxury vinyl flooring keeps your home up-to-date
Just because you can’t have the real thing doesn’t mean your home should be deprived of modern, stylish trends or current convenience. As an example, wood floors are ultra-popular, but can’t be installed everywhere because of water and humidity damage. With luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) you can still have a true-to-life wood look, together with a high function such as waterproofing, durability, and easy maintenance. To top it off, this is a prestige, and very affordable, product, so go ahead and have those gray, whitewashed, or barn door weathered floors.
LVF: design and architectural interest
Wood looks add visual appeal, but the stone is also elegant, glamourous, and architecturally interesting, whether it's marble, granite, limestone, or some other rock. Quarried stone can be pricey and sometimes even soft and porous, requiring regular sealing. You won’t have sealing concerns with LVF, nor will you pay anywhere close to the cost of quarried slabs. Tile colors and patterns will be vibrant and brilliant.
The image layer, taken with 3D photography, is so clear and accurate you’ll see every color and veining variation. Embossing gives added depth and dimension, as well as textured appearances such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. Finishes are available in matte, gloss, and high-gloss colors. Speaking of textures, that's a big trend this year, especially when it's wire-brushed.
LVF can be cut into planks (LVP) or square, groutable tile-sized pieces (LVT). Many say the extra seams give the product even more realism, while others take it further by using grout with LVT. Although the planks are mainly associated with hardwood, some also use them for stone mimics as they look more like a quarried slab with a large format and fewer seams.
Other reasons it keeps the home updated include:
- Easy care. We all lead busy, hectic lives and don’t have time to scrub floors. This just needs a regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners.
- Fast installation. This is the floating floor technique where the installer clicks the pieces together to form a mat. It then hovers it over a subfloor with no nails or glue. Subfloors need only to be clean, dry, and level, with no need for time-consuming restoration.
